Newsweek: The Recession Generation I'm sure many of you have seen this article. Thought it was interesting. Will your lifestyle change and if so, how?

My lifestyle will not, and has not changed any Close to half of our "family" income went away just under two years ago when SO decided to become a SAHM. She's made a few deals here and there, and we have a small income from rentals, but the bulk of our income for this time has been from me. Our life changed only in very minimal ways, due mostly to having a baby, not anything money related. Of course we save and invest huge percentages of our incomes, so we could survive at least a couple of years if things went back, and longer if reduce our lifestyle and / or sell off some properties.

Then Y did you respond? Did you read the article? You have kid right? What will their life be like in the future USA or, don't you care?

Here's why.... I wanted to point out that if you live at least within, or well below your means, then various hassles, calamities, and disasters will not have any severe impact on how you live your life. The kid's future? 20 years from now? Well, He'll be fluent in English, Mandarin, and German which are our home tongues, and he may be living in China, where we now own a residence. I'm not even going to try to predict what the world will look like in 20 years, given that these are some of the most tumultuous times we've seen in decades. But we will raise the little fart to possess the tools to deal with life, and see to it that he has a decent financial start.
