Why won't banks hire me??? I am getting really pissed off. I finished my Canadian Securities Course (CSC) in August and I am trying so hard to get a job as a Financial Services Rep yet no one ever fucking s me for an interview. I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree with 7 years of customer service and 5 years of retail sales experience. I've worked in a bank as a teller but I wanted to be more so I took the CSC, which the bank try to discourage me from. Some of the jobs I applied to don't even need the CSC, I basiy took the CSC in hopes that the banks would notice me but I guess I just wasted time and money. On top of that, I can't even get regular jobs while I wait for one of the banks to hire me. This is fucking bullshit, I've been laid off from 2 jobs since March '09. What the fuck did I do to deserve this?

some perspective You didn't do anything wrong. You did do something admirable and purposeful. The hard work you put in to establish your certification (CSC) is something that you can add to your knowledge base. And no one can take that away from you. Many of us have attempted similar ventures with the intentions of not only learning for the sake of learning, but also to demonstrate value in the workplace. While looking for work in this job market, have you in addition to sending out resumes, networked? Have you ed anyone in positions that you desire to set up informational interviews? It's an oppty to ask questions about the person, how they got into their field, what they like/dislike about it, what they would recommend for someone with your skills to approach someone that they might know who can help you find the work that you seek. Unfortunately, this is gonna take time. And another thing, there are sooo many people who have applied for your types of positions. And perhaps the HA's already have someone they know or who they owe a favor to, and will preselect the candidate on their own and tell them to apply through the formal process, but already have the job. Don't beat yourself up for trying to improve your skills. Don't highlight that while you're talking with people. People don't hire people for "all that they know," the HA wants to hire someone they feel comfortable in their presence, who isn't a threat to their insecurities, who will tow the line and just do the job. When you perform self development activities, hold that on your resume, but highlight what you can do for someone. Don't tell them what you know, "show" them what you know. And that only happens when you're on the job. Your accomplishments can serve you later when your trying for a promotion, as opposed to just trying to get in the door.

Thanks for the feedback Appreciate the response. I've networked and handed resumes all over but most banks only want people to apply and submit resumes online. I've also talked to about a dozen of people that are in the position that I am applying for, I've done my research during my downtime. I have listed what I can offer to employers. Hell I even spent a whole week revamping my resume and cover letter.

ok, I know you're comfortable with your resume and cover letter. Can you (just for the sake of our confirmation) post your "anonymous-no name, nor Co's listings) so that we can see the format and give you feedback? Are you reading your local business trade business paper "Vancouver Business Journal" to find out where the networking, breakfast, and power lunch meetings are? Gotta keep dressing up and getting out. It will help you feel better to be around employed people.

I've already got plently of feedback from employment counselors and professionals, but thanks anyways. I've gone to career fairs but they all told me to just apply online. I haven't read the Vancouver Business Journal but I will definitely check it out.

They're commision based only I'm not interested in them. You pretty much have to start your own business and build your clientele. Too risky. Need to make a guaranteed income.

You Can't Beat Experience You didn't really say how long you worked in a bank as a teller but, if I had to guess I would say banks are looking for more experience. The bachelor of arts degree is not really relative to financial careers and sometimes people are reluctant to hire musicians, artist and creative types. I suggest you try temping to build up your resume while taking courses related to the international money market.

Worked as a teller for 1 year I wanted to do more and build a career in banking. Funny how people think a BA is some kind of music or fine arts degree, those would be classified as a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts). A BA can be anything. Mine was a mixture of business, economics and geography. Can't afford to take any more courses right now since I have little money.

Series 7 is for securities If they are selling only annuities or mutual funds as part of their portfolio, they can do a series 6. Both are administered by NASD.
